Ordered Community Service Volunteer

Volunteers who are required to do service by court, school, or another group.


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 14 years of age or older (younger volunteers may be considered, but must have a parent or guardian apply with them)

  • Must be able to report the exact number of hours needed

  • Must be able to report the date hours must be completed by

  • Must be able to give a brief written explanation as to why the hours are needed

  • Willingness to volunteer during weekdays and some weekends

  • Physical ability to push, bend, stretch, lift, and stand for hours*

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the upkeep of the library. Examples include, but are not limited to:

    * Use cleaning chemicals to clean surfaces

    * Use cleaning chemicals to clean items available for checkout

    * Dusting shelves and books

    * Vacuuming

    * Moving boxes, chairs, tables, and other items as needed

    * Organizing boxes, chairs, or other items

    * Assisting with decorations or crafts as needed

  2. Straighten books on shelves to ensure uniformity and neatness in appearance

  3. Return items and organize shelves**


Training Provided:

Orientation to the library as well as the Library Standards of Conduct. Additional training will be provided on an as-needed basis.


Time Commitment: Arriving on time to your scheduled hours. Hours needed are between you and whoever is requiring them. You will schedule times with the volunteer coordinator.


Grounds for Termination: Inability or unwillingness to perform job-related tasks proficiently, failure to arrive on time on a regular basis without notice, failure to show up to shift without prior notice, failure to follow Library Standards of Conduct.


Skills and Experience: The ability to tolerate high noise levels and occasionally chaotic surroundings with a calm attitude is required.

**Those who want to be able to help with the shelves will need to pass a short quiz in which you arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order.
